Hey, you children of the Earth! I need to talk really important stuff with you. You know something? It is beginning to look as if the future of Planet Earth is going to depend on you. This, you may think, is a little surprising. But sorry, it is true. The great problems of this small planet and its inhabitants are coming to your table. The meter has expired on bad behavior by the only surviving homo species, Homo sapiens .[ that's the scientific name for humans.] Beginning the"fix" will not be up to the next generation[your children]. The time of "passing the buck" has run out.
The Earth is 4.5 billion years old. There has been life on Earth for 3.5 billion years. Now, after these eons of geologic time, the crunch is coming, right in the geologic microsecond that you will be here. Not fair? Right. Not fair. But it will be your chance to save the Earth. No Superhero to the rescue. I t will take all of you. That will be one billion children, 5-18 years.
Live your lives as your parents and the generations before them lived, and you will go down with the ship.
Don't wait for your Parents to do something, because they are in denial. Do not wait for your current leaders to do something as they are part of the problem.
So what is wrong with the way your parents live? Your Grand Parents lived? Your Great Grand Parents? Generations going back 5000 years? Well, let me tell you.
The biggest problem first. If you do not solve this, all other strategies will fail. To me, this is as obvious as the nose on your face. This is a global issue. Don't "pick" on one country. Everyone needs to see it clear as black and white. What is this "Monster", pivotal, problem? Well, here it is.
There are too many of us.
Our population is growing exponentially. We are almost at 8 billion. By 2100 there will be 11 billion of us, some predictions have it. This cannot happen. You children of the world, it will be up to you to turn this around. You cannot have an excuse. Don't talk about your religion, don't follow tradition, don't listen to your leaders, don't follow your parents, Grand Parents. It cannot be your task to "Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it.". Your forebears have pretty much done this.
Our activities have ravaged the forests. We have raped the seas. Our wastes and garbage pollute the air, land and oceans. It is not possible to do "damage control" as our population burgeons.
You children of the Earth, do not let the adults around you steal your brain. You must have the chance, you have the right, to be educated. Boy or girl. Read anything you want. Do not be forced to memorize dogma. Go to the high school, go to the university. Fill your brain with science, history and the arts. You girls of the Earth, do not consign yourself to child bearing and cooking.＊
You children of the Earth, discard old tradition and culture that controls and confines you. Set yourself high goals. Find a way out. Start with play. Play music. Dance. Do sport. Stay away from the mosque, synagogue, church or temple. Avoid the rant and harangue. Do not join with ideologies. Do not be taught how to hate and kill. Dream to become scientist, professor, lawyer, entertainer, professional athlete, musician.
You children of the Earth, here is what you can believe. You have a soul. A Right Soul and a Bad Soul. Learn to tell the difference. Good Soul is respect, kindness and forgiveness. Bad Soul is greed, anger, hatred and jealousy. Let your Right Soul be the winner. Do not let the Bad Soul have a chance.
Charles Darwin used the phrase "gradual illumination of men's mind's". I would change "men's" to "people's". It would also appear that the "gradual" has been all too gradual. Now, the light must turn on. "Imperceptible" must become "instantly". Darwin also observed "that it is difficult to change a man's mind during his lifetime". He expressed hope that a man's children's minds might be changed. You children of the Earth, you are now several generations beyond the children of Darwin's time.
There is no more time.
